A ‘new’ oldest British Columbia picture postcard has been found – a Province Publishing Coy. Ltd. postcard with two images – “Vancouver from Mount Pleasant” and “In Stanley Park”, dated June 13, 1899. The collector’s prize – $250 and a lifetime membership in the Vancouver Postcard Club – will be awarded at an upcoming meeting. A very similar postcard was also submitted by the same collector.

The previously earliest known British Columbia picture postcard was dated July 22, 1899.

The judges found one postal stationary card that was submitted, although not a picture postcard, very interesting. It has not been listed before. Accordingly the collector submitting this early CPR stationery view card, February 14, 1899 showing the “Fraser Canon House, North Bend, B.C.” was awarded an Honourable Mention and wins a year’s membership in the Vancouver Postcard Club.

These postcards and their stories will be featured in the September issue of Postview, the Vancouver Postcard Club’s newsletter.
