Shown above is the front of an embossed Christmas postcard – sent to Vancouver in 1912 from the United States.

This shows a little girl who was waiting, but now is asleep – and Santa hovering nearby with a bag full of toys. Sent to Mr E C Shaughnessy, Vancouver, BC.

The 1912 Henderson’s Directory (page 1186) shows Mr. E. C. Shaughnessy at 48 1/2 Cordova East in Vancouver.  Likely this was Edward Charles Shaughnessy (1879-1946), variously described in records as a Vancouver waiter, caterer and restaurant keeper, born in Ontario, who later married Lulu Ross (known as Gladys?) in New Westminster, 1916. Private collection.
