Michael Souza will deliver a PowerPoint presentation on “The Occupation of Hong Kong and the Life of a Veteran”. The Presentation uses coins, stamps, postcards and currency to cover the period before, during and after the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong during the Second World War. It also integrates the life of Michael’s late father as a soldier before the war, during the war as a prisoner of the Japanese, and his life after the war as an Olympic marksman.
Michael Souza was born in Hong Kong in 1955 and immigrated to Canada in 1968. He graduated from high school in 1973 and was employed by Revenue Canada Taxation (now Canada Revenue Agency-“CRA”) in 1976. He obtained his CGA designation in 1984 and after a 35-year career as an income tax auditor at CRA, he retired in 2011. Michael has been a member of the North Shore Numismatic Society since 1988 and is currently holding the positions of President, Secretary, and Treasurer of the club.
