A Hundred Years Ago – by Philip Francis – I had the privilege recently of attending a memorial service for a remarkable pioneer of the Canadian nursing profession. Verna Splane passed away a few weeks after celebrating her 100th birthday. As I heard her story through the tributes of close friends and family members I couldn’t help reflecting on the very different world into which Verna was born in 1914 and how many extraordinary changes she had witnessed in her long and productive life. Fortunately we have postcards to provide us with visual images of Canada a hundred years ago and to document the dramatic events that have occurred since then. Postview Feb 2015
